Zamora, Neri Marcorè's debut behind the camera, is based on the novel by Roberto Perrone.
The main character is thirty-year-old Walter Vismara (Alberto Paradossi), an accountant by profession and in his soul, who works in a small factory in Vigevano. When the factory suddenly closes, Vismara reluctantly finds himself catapulted into a futuristic company in vital and industrious Milan, at the service of Cavalier Tosetto (Giovanni Storti), a modern and brilliant entrepreneur. Everything would be fine if it weren't for his passion for folber (a term coined by Gianni Brera); he forces all his employees into weekly singles versus married matches. Walter, who can't stand football, chooses goalkeeper because it's the only position he knows. He is forced to play to keep his job and in addition to the endless goals he lets in, he has to deal with his colleagues’ teasing. Unpleasant engineer Gusperti (Walter Leonardi) immediately targets him, renaming him "Zamora" with reference to the great Spanish goalkeeper of the 1930s; he humiliates him on the field and bullies him at work, and there seems to be something between him and the secretary that Walter is in love with... Feeling betrayed and mocked, the accountant devises a completely original plan to take revenge. In football, as in life, you have to learn to risk everything, even if you fail, the important thing is to get up and start again.
Filming took place in Turin and Milan. Locations in the Piedmonte capital included: the Faculty of Anatomy, the historic Le Roi nightclub, some football fields, bars, restaurants, private apartments, numerous streets in the centre. Locations outside Turin included San Mauro, Carignano and surrounding areas.
