During the game, the main character explores numerous museums situated in the municipalities that partner the project. The educational aim of the game, clearly aimed at a young audience, combines with a fictional storyline that involves historical and/or legendary characters from the area of Spoleto and Valnerina. The main character’s journey is also a return to his roots. It is a pathway of photographs, images, anecdotes and mini-games all deriving from the wealth of historical and cultural heritage in the area.
Visitable locations include: Casa dei Racconti (Vallo di Nera); Museo del Ciarlatano and Museo delle Mummie (Cerreto di Spoleto); Casa Romana, Museo del Tessuto e del Costume, Museo delle Miniere di Morgnano, Museo della Ferrovia Spoleto-Norcia, Museo di Scienze del Territorio, Palazzo Collicola – Appartamento Nobile, Palazzo Collicola – Galleria d’Arte Moderna G.Carandente (Spoleto), Museo della Canapa (Sant’Anatolia di Narco), Piccolo Museo della Biga (Monteleone di Spoleto). The Umbrian Chronicles is a video game that was created as part of the ‘Connessioni museali: tra valli e monti, borghi e città’ Project, promoted by the Municipalities of Spoleto, Sant’Anatolia di Narco, Cerreto di Spoleto, Vallo di Nera, Monteleone di Spoleto and financed by Regione Umbria.
The aim of the project is to boost awareness of the cultural heritage of Spoleto and the Valnerina area. “The programmed actions in the game provide a pathway that is both real and virtual, combining places and historical-artistic goods both immaterial and natural” reads the notes on the council’s decision-making process guided by the Mayor of Spoleto, Umberto de Augustinis. The project “began with the awareness that there are increasingly three macro areas of potential visitor, something that became increasingly evident during the Covid emergency: on the one hand, there are those who are virtual, distant, multilinguistic, multi-cultural, always connected.” Then there are the real-life visitors, “i.e., locals and tourists who will return to visiting museums.” (Spoletonline). Numerous museums were involved, and are included, in the graphic adventure created by Entertainment Game Apps and IVIPRO provided research support.
