Villa Giulia, overlooking the shores of lungolago di Pallanza in Verbania, was built in neoclassical style in 1882 by Bernardino Branca, and was later extended and embellished: a terrace with pergola and a large English gardenwith various viewpoints over the lake were added.
The elegant façade is decorated with two orders of columns in pink granite from Baveno with capitals in Carrara marble and little columns in red Verona marble. On the third, top floor is an open terrace which is also decorated with columns placed in a semicircle.
From 1931, the villa became a kursaal (a tourist structure or hotel offering entertainment and various services), creating two big rooms for conferences, exhibitions and concerts. In 1987, the residence became the property of the Comune di Verbania. Today it is the setting for the Centro ricerca Arte Attuale and hosts cultural events, exhibitions and displays.
