16th-century Villa Bottini, owned by the municipality, stands in the centre of Lucca, outside porta San Gervasio. Commissioned by Bernardino Buonvisi, ownership passed to Elisa Bacciocchi in the early 1800s and later to the Bottini family.
The building is shaped like a parallelepiped, topped with an open sided loggia. The interiors feature decorations including a 16th century fresco cycle of mythological and allegorical scenes by Ventura Salimbeni, a central reception room (for 90 people), a reception area, four side rooms for collateral activities and a basement area.
The villa is surrounded by a large garden; the driveway divides the approach into two sectors filled with fountains, magnolia and conifer trees. Behind the villa, orthogonal walkways converge on an octagonal ornamental pond.
