The Rosazzo Abbey is located on the eastern hills of Friuli in isolated location in the hills north-east of Manzano, about twenty kilometers from Udine and ten from the border with Slovenia.
The millenary Abbey, whose origins are not yet completely understood, has been in the past and is still today, mainly because of its geographical position, the connection point between east and west, where different cultures can meet and communicate.
Built around the year one thousand, the abbey church is Romanesque in style and is dedicated to St. Peter the Apostole, it bears the marks of the restructuring that look place over time and you can find architectural elements dating from different periods (early medieval type, sixteenth and nineteenth century).
Simple in structure (rectangular nave and two aisles), the facade has a mullioned window of probable Benedectine origin, like the other two mullioned windows visible from the cloister. Inside, recently restored frescoes by Francesco India, known as the "Moro" or "Turbid", all dating back to 1535. Of more recent are the altars, the second half of the eighteenth century (works of the Udine sculptors Giovanni and Giuseppe Mattiussi) and the statues that adorn the church.
Today in the Abbey find place cultural events, organized from Fondazione Abbazia di Rosazzo, such as Easter and Christmas concerts, Rosazzo by Rosa, exhibitions and meetings called "Abbey talks".
