A part of Italy will appear in the second instalment of Dune, the latest adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel, directed by Denis Villeneuve. Shooting is due to start in the Brion Tomb in the cemetery of San Vito, hamlet of Altivole in the area of Treviso. The funeral monument, recently donated to FAI (Fondo per l’ambiente italiano), was commissioned in the 1970s from Carlo Scarpa by Onorina Tomasin-Brion, to honour the memory of her late husband Giuseppe Brion.
The Tomb will be closed until 8 July to allow shooting to take place undisturbed on a closed set until 6 July. Cast and crew are then expected to return to Hungary, main location for the first chapter in the saga which garnered great critical and box office success (€ 400 million and 6 Academy Awards).
In Dune 2 sees the return of the core cast: Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin, with the addition of Léa Seydoux, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken and Austin Butler. Theatrical release is scheduled for 17 November 2023.
