Description

Law n° 220 of 14 November 2016 “Disciplina del cinema e dell’audiovisivo” establishes the ‘Film and Audiovisual Fund’ aimed at funding works through tax credits, automatic contributions and selective contributions.

Selective contributions are granted by the Ministry of Culture for the writing, development and production of Italian film and audiovisual works.

The funding available for writing of screenplays for film, television and web products di €1,200,000, divided up as follows:

  • feature films: €780,000, divided between the 2 sessions into €390,000 for each (a maximum of 19 projects will be granted funding at each session);
  • serial tv and web works: €420,000, divided between the 2 sessions into €210,000 for each (a maximum of 10 projects will be granted funding at each session).

Requirements

Applications may be submitted by adults who are:

  • Citizens of Italy or another member country of the European Economic Area;
  • Fiscally resident in Italy;
  • In possession of the rights to creatively develop the artistic material;
  • In possession of a certified email address and personal digital signature;
  • Not owners, administrators, partners or legal representatives of: audio-visual production or distribution companies (Ateco 59.11 code); audio-visual distribution companies (Ateco 59.13 code); audio-visual service companies (Ateco 60.20 code), as evinced by the Chamber of Commerce company registration, also including businesses not included in the ordinary section of Italy’s corporate registry, Registro delle imprese, as per Art. 2188 of Italy’s Civil Code.

Applications will be accepted from screenwriting projects that are:

  • Original and unpublished or creative developments of pre-existing non audio-visual works, as long as the writer possesses the necessary rights;
  • Written in Italian;
  • Works which will have a minimum running time of 52 minutes;
  • Wdited to the technical specifications listed in the call for proposals.

Payment schedule

The grant is disbursed in two phases:

  • Within 90 days from publication of the grant awards, the successful applicant may request a 50% advance, which will be disbursed within 30 days;
  • No later than 12 months from publication of the grant awards, the beneficiary may request the balance of the grant, with submission of the correct paperwork;
  • Within 90 days from presentation of the documentation and, following verification, DGCA disburses the balance of the grant.

Alternatively:

  • No later than 12 months from publication of the grant awards, the successful applicant requests the entire grant, with submission of the correct paperwork;
  • Within 90 days, DGCA disburses the balance of the grant.
