Piazza Gino Valle, which takes its name from the architect who first designed the space, is part of the urban reconversion plan for the Portello industrial area in Milan.
Completed for Expo 2015, the lightly sloping piazza has an irregular fan shape. The surface has three levels which each serve a different function such as parking, services, shopping and a restaurant. Three office buildings, known as the “urban mountains” for their diagonal profile and height, give the piazza a modern, idiosyncratic identity.
The piazza hosts a large (23+m wide, 3+m high) bas-relief by Emilio Isgrò, entitled 'Grande Cancellatura per Giovanni Testori', inspired by an extract from The Ghisolfa Bridge by playwright Giovanni Testori.
