The Insugherata Nature Reserve, whose name comes from its numerous cork trees (sughere), covers 740 hectares in the north-western sector of Rome. It is bounded to the east by the via Cassia, to the west by the via Trionfale and to the south by via Cortina d’Ampezzo. Agricultural in nature, it conserves forests, a range of animal and vegetable species and historical remains including numerous ruins of Roman villas and sepulchres.
