Castelnuovo di Farfa (RI) is a medieval borgo that rises on a charming hill in the Sabina area, between the Rivers Farfa and Riana, and has been settled since Neolithic times. Famous for its excellent olive oil, today it features the Museo dell'olio della Sabina.
The historical centre conserves its medieval character with origins datable to the late 9th century when a document from 877 mentions that the Church of San Donato is entrusted to the Abbey of Farfa. The Castrum Novum which gave the borgo its name was not, however, built until the 13th century when it was enclosed by defensive walls with nine towers and two city gates, Porta Castello and Porta Cisterna.
