The renowned Thun Palace in Trento, currently the Town Hall, is located in the area where the cardo maximus was located, that is the main north-south road. Built by Sigismund of the Counts of Thun in Renaissance lines in the mid-sixteenth century, it was owned by the illustrious family, originally from the Val di Non, for about four centuries. The structure consists of several buildings, a chapel and a tower, with attached internal courtyards that the Thun counts bought from the Belenzani family. Underneath the building, remains of a public drainage system from the Roman era survived, then demolished in the Middle Ages.
