The Teatro della Concordia is located in the heart of the old town of Montecastello di Vibio (PG), a town on the right slope of the Tiber Valley, not far from Todi. With 99 seats between boxes and stalls, it has been called the "smallest theater in the world". Designed just after the French Revolution, it was named for that "concord among peoples" (concordia) that was being recreated in Europe in the early 1800s. It was built with the finances of nine distinguished local families who worked hard to make it a place of entertainment and meetings. It was inaugurated in 1808. Unfortunately, the theater closed its doors in 1951 and a collapse in the 1960s affected the roof. Given the situation, the inhabitants of Montecastello decided to self-tax in order to finance the first recovery interventions, the Region then continued the restoration with E.U. funding. The restoration work which made it possible to maintain the same original wooden structure that supports the boxes was completed in 1993.
