Palazzo Ottolenghi in Asti, known in the past as Palazzo Gabutti, was the result of the union of two adjacent buildings that took place in the second half of the 1700s designed by Benedetto Alfieri on commission from Count Giuseppe Antonio Gabutti. In Baroque style, it marked the finish line for the ancient race, Palio di Asti, for years and offered the town’s civic leaders an excellent viewpoint for watching the event.
Today, the ground floor of the west wing houses the Museo del Risorgimento, with the addition of the museum section of the Divisione Italiana Partigiana Garibaldi. Following restoration work which also included pictorial decoration, the salone d’onore and the adjacent room on the first floor are now open to the public, including the main staircase and entrance.
