The small village of Corchia lies in a secluded valley a few kilometres from Berceto in the Parma Apennines between the Taro Valley and the Baganza Valley, at 852 meters above sea level. The ancient nucleus of stone houses, cobbled alleys, arched underpasses with the stable-haylofts typical of the area known as “tagge appenniniche” gives the mountain village an evocative medieval appearance.
It stands on the "road of the porcini mushroom", the renowned product from the Parma Apennines area recognized with PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) by the European Community.
The iron and copper mines of nearby Mount Groppo Maggio, previously exploited by the Farnese family and abandoned in 1943, were of great significance to the country’s economic development.
