Villa Perego di Cremnago in Inverigo, province of Como, is located in "Brianza Comasca," a district nicknamed "the town of delightful villas" due to a high concentration of historic homes.
The villa was built by Canon Giovanni Perego, Abbot of San Nazaro e Celso in Milan, from 1722 to 1740, on the site of a pre-existing 16th-century noble residence belonging to the Perego family, likely used as a hunting lodge and to supervise agricultural activities.
The architect Merlo, very popular at the time, was commissioned to design the villa and created an imposing structure with typical Lombard Baroque elements. Some sources believe that the architect Piermarini is responsible for a series of neoclassical elements, in particular those at the entrance, added later.
