T-Green: the virtuous model created to reward sustainable productions in Trentino

24-10-2019 Reading time: 2 minutes

T-Green is the first regional fund in Europe to reward and certify film productions whose work includes respect of the environment. Introduced by the Trentino Film Fund and Commission in 2017, the concept behind the model is very simple: production companies shooting in Trentino may choose to adopt the T-Green Film policy. This requires employing various good practices to optimise electricity consumption and the use of transport, choice of materials, of catering and waste and also to include communication about sustainability. The various stages of the production process and the impact of its actions are evaluated by an external body based in Trento, APPA (Agenzia Provinciale per la Protezione dell’Ambiente). If the film obtains certification, TFC will provide an extra contribution as a reward for their respect of the environment.

Since the launch of the programme, approximately 50% of requests for regional support have also opted to follow T-Green. Ten productions have been certified while a further two are presently being evaluated. The Swedish TV series Sanctuary was the first foreign production to be certified by the regional fund.

The Film Commission is exploring the opportunity of exporting the model and has seen interest from other European territories. Furthermore, it is working to ensure the uptake of the model in the neighbouring regions in Italy and to this end, the scheme has been slightly adapted which has modified its regional traits and led to a rebranding, with a new name and website: Green.film.
