Segonzano Castle (Trento) is a typical medieval building with walls and crenelated towers. Dating to the 13th century, it is located on a rocky spur overlooking the Cembra Valley. Built by Rodolfo Scancio with the authorization of prince, bishop Federico Vanga, the castle served as an important control point for traffic in the Adige Valley. It was bombed and looted during Austrian-French fighting and in 1795 it was abandoned and fell into ruin. Today the prison tower from the Roman era remains standing.
