The ancient village of Cereggio, located in the municipality of Ventasso (Reggio Emilia), is perched on a limestone-marl hill overlooking the Enza river valley, close to the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines National Park. Inhabited since the Middle Ages, Cereggio became popular during the years of the Duchy of Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla, when the customs office was established here, remaining active until 1847.
Largely restored, the village is a popular destination for hikers in Val d'Enza. The nearby Ducati route, almost 180km in length with 11 stages, is popular with cyclists and trekking enthusiasts following the outline of the borders of Este as they were from 1600 through to the end of 1800. The path also crosses the via Francigena and via Matildica del Volto Santo.
The village features the small 18th-century Church of St. Francis of Assisi, which has two altars, a bell tower from 1863 and a sacristy from 1868.
