The Last One for the Road by Francesco Sossai is the story of two penniless fifty-somethings, Carlobianchi and Doriano (Sergio Romano, Pierpaolo Capovilla), and their obsession with bar-crawling in search of the “last drink”. While wandering the Veneto plain, they encounter Giulio (Filippo Scotti), a shy architecture student. The encounter with these two unlikely mentors profoundly transforms Giulio's perspective on the world, love, and the future.
Locations of this on-the-road film are to be found in various provinces of the Veneto plain (and beyond), e.g.: Sedico, Feltre, Cesiomaggiore (Belluno), Cadoneghe, Brugine (Padua), where the three pose as architects to nab another glass of wine at Villa Roberti; Noale, Chioggia (Venice); and Venice, in Santa Croce and Campo dei Tolentini, among others.
The final scenes are set at the Brion Memorial, a monumental funerary complex nestled in the Treviso countryside on the edge of the village of San Vito d'Altivole. On the border between the private memorial and the public cemetery, Giulio and his two friends also visit the tomb of the architect Carlo Scarpa, who wanted to be buried here.
