The Domus Mercatorum (Merchants’ House) is an imposing, elegant medieval building in piazza delle Erbe in the heart of Verona, built by the Scaliger ruling family as a place to bring the arts and crafts guilds together to discuss aspects of the city’s commercial life and do business.
The building dominates the square thanks to the elegant red brick portico supported by columns and pilasters and crowned with wide double windows and swallow-shaped Ghibelline battlements. A niche holds Girolamo Campagna’s Madonna con bambino dating to the 1600s.
