Albatross, directed by Giulio Base, traces the story of Almerigo Grilz, journalist and war correspondent, who worked in the world’s conflict zones and throughout Europe, driven by passion and later by professional and civic commitment.
Many of the war zones covered by Grilz were recreated in Puglia, employing 30 local workers on the shoot in November-December 2023. Locations serving as the Middle East, Asia, and Africa included: Foggia, San Giovanni Rotondo, Monte Sant’Angelo, Mattinata, Cagnano Varano, Poggio Imperiale, Manfredonia, Apricena, and Margherita di Savoia. The production also shot in Trieste, and briefly in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Albatross is the story of right-wing journalist, Almerigo Grilz, and his friendship with left-wing colleague Vito in Trieste. Grilz and friends, Gian Micalessin and Fausto Biloslavo, establish a press agency "Albatross" in the 1980s following a period of youthful political activism. Convinced of the need to document neglected conflicts, and passionate about understanding and reporting the world, Grilz travelled constantly across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa with his camera, until his death in 1987 in Mozambique at the age of 34.
