The game takes place almost entirely in Naples, and more specifically, in the rooms of the archaeological museum of the city. The developers also included a few of the stereotypes so dear to the international imagination (vespas, coffee). That said, some of the symbols of Naples and the surrounding area are represented with significant graphical taste. As well as the Museum, the game features Piazza del Plescibito, the Royal Palace and the Fountain of the Giant. The action also briefly shifts to Pompeii, with Vesuvius clearly recognisable in the background.

Father and Son is the National Archaeological Museum of Naples’ first foray into the video gaming world. The game – whose impressive graphics are the work of British artist Sean Wenham, who also created the short but captivating The End of the World – is the most recent example of museums stepping into the video gaming world. The narrative of Father and Son no longer centres around the grey city of Newcastle as in Wenham’s previous title, but the capital of Campania, with its picturesque settings and centuries-old history.
