The opening scene of the film is set in via Taverna del Ferro in San Giovanni a Teduccio, a neighbourhood on the outskirts of Naples, near murals by Jorit entitled “Dios umano” and “Essere Umani”. Two of the film’s three acts, however, are set in Barracano’s villa in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio where the “mayor” goes with his family several times a year. There is a constant flow of people inside and outside the villa, from Barracano’s henchmen to all those who come to him for justice and to settle scores.
Barracano receives and listens to everyone, placating every type of confrontation until he is faced with Rafiluccio Santaniello who declares his decision to kill his father. Intending to solve the question, the boss leaves his villa and heads for Arturo Santaniello’s bakery, walking through the alleys of Rione Sanità.

In a contemporary retelling of Eduardo De Filippo’s play, Antonio Barracano is “The Mayor” of the Rione Sanità (a neighbourhood in Naples). In this role he dispenses justice, above and beyond the State, regulating disputes with his own rules, following the criteria that “those with saints to protect them go to Paradise, those without go to Don Antonio”.
