Era by Vincenzo Marra was filmed in and around Naples over seven weeks from October to December 2024.
Elderly Neapolitan Lina has no intention of being defined by the date in her identity card. Lina is pure energy: tireless, aware, stubbornly alive. She resolutely leads a noisy Catholic association of middle-class old ladies, takes care of her sister and a nephew who has never truly grown up, and determinedly continues to exercise her role as an "old-school" mother to her three sixty-year-old children, who are eternally in crisis. Whether the problem is financial, psychological, or emotional, Lina always has a solution.
Widowed many years ago, she has steadfastly resisted her children's attempts to convince her to enter a nursing home with a smile, irony, and a vitality that seems unstoppable. Every Thursday, no matter what, she respects two essential rituals: a visit to her husband at the cemetery and a game of scopone with her sister Maria. Also in her life is Don Eduardo, her neighbour of indeterminate age, who never misses the chance for a gallant or imaginative gesture.
One day, however, Lina has an episode after which she can no longer remain alone and is forced to choose: a care home or a caregiver. Sri Lankan Amilà is chosen, she has lived in Naples for a long time but knows neither the language nor the local culinary traditions. This forced encounter gives birth to an unexpected relationship, one destined to profoundly transform both their lives and those of the others around them.
